Installing on Windows

Our Windows installers aren't code-signed yet. Microsoft signs software only for businesses with a few years of history, and Cavatus Audio is new. Until then, Windows doesn't know us as a publisher and asks you to confirm that you trust the installer. Here's what you'll see, in order. Depending on your settings, you may see only some of these:

  1. Your browser may warn that the file isn't commonly downloaded. Keep it: in Edge, open the … menu next to the download and choose Keep; in Chrome, choose Keep.
  2. “Windows protected your PC” may appear when you open the installer. Click More info, then Run anyway. On some systems the message is “Open File – Security Warning” instead: click Run.
  3. User Account Control asks whether the app from an unknown publisher may make changes. Click Yes: the installer needs it to put the plugin into the shared plugin folder.

After that, the installer puts the plugin into the shared plugin folder, C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3, where every host looks. Rescan your plugins if your host doesn't find it right away.

Is that safe?

The warnings are about the missing signature, not about anything Windows found in the file. Download the installer only from cavatus.dev or your account, which deliver it over an encrypted connection. The macOS installers are signed and notarized by Apple.
